Community Café Arnhem - Activities, workshops & connection

Arnhem

Welcome to our Community Café, A Beautiful Mess, in Arnhem! In March 2023, we opened our doors on Nieuwe Kade, near the asylum-seeker center on the boats. The café is a gathering place for residents of the emergency shelter and people from the surrounding area: everyone is welcome to enjoy a good cup of coffee, a friendly chat, or to take part in one of our activities. We want to create an inclusive and safe space where we can build a community together in which everyone can participate. This is a place where people with a refugee background can make new connections, attend workshops, receive coaching to help them adjust to life in the Netherlands, pursue training in the hospitality industry, and, step by step, get their lives back on track in the Netherlands.

Activities

You are welcome to visit on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Our offerings include, among other things:

A cozy, homey place with free, delicious barista-brewed coffee and tea.
Language courses: Dutch and English for beginners and advanced learners.
Workshops on living, studying, and working in the Netherlands.
Barista and hospitality training courses.
Digital Skills Workshops.
Art workshops.
Roundtable discussions on Dutch customs and culture (Let’s Talk!).

Would you like to participate in an activity or organize a workshop yourself? If so, please contact our café manager, Anaïs Ribeyre, at anais@abeautifulmess.nl.

Volunteers

We’re always looking for volunteers who can lend a hand. We’re always looking for volunteers who want to help so we can organize more workshops and activities for residents. Think, for example, of language workshops, digital skills, creative activities such as theater, dance, and movement, cultural exchange, making delicious cappuccinos, or anything else you’d like to share with newcomers.

Would you like to contribute? If so, please contact our café manager, Anaïs Ribeyre, at anais@abeautifulmess.nl.
