About Refugee Company

We are a foundation with social enterprises A Beautiful Mess, restaurants and community cafes in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Arnhem. We believe in the power of a personal approach. We guide people with a refugee background to work in order to become socially and economically independent. We offer apprenticeships that take place in one of our restaurants or community cafes A Beautiful Mess and eventually mediate people to (paid) work.

What will you do?

• You work at the azc in the cruise ship Galaxy and one day in another cafe in Amsterdam West
• You approach azc residents proactively, explain what we do and motivate them to be active in our community (as a trainee, workshop participant or workshop facilitator).
• You conduct workshops that help participants move forward in their development.
• You offer a listening ear and conduct interviews with participants to get a good picture of qualities, needs and skills. You will work closely with your fellow coaches, the community café manager and other partners.
• You monitor developments and look for the professional needs of the participants.
• You will liaise with collaborative partners such as language and healthcare partners to provide targeted referrals of participants for specialist support.
• You build a social map, have knowledge of Dutch laws and regulations regarding education and labor.
• You recruit and supervise volunteers.
• You will support participants in onboarding with employers.
• You will work 24 hours spread over 6 days from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Who are you?

You don’t have to be able to do everything already, but we hope you will:

• Have a positive attitude, good intuition and people skills.
• You have proven experience in coaching and mentoring people with refugee backgrounds;
• You are socially strong and a good listener
• understands the importance of good record keeping so that we can measure our impact.
• Speaks Dutch and English. Another language is a plus.
• You have a hands-on mentality and are solution-oriented.
