Impact first: doing business with a purpose

Since 2016, A Beautiful Mess has been affiliated with Social Enterprise NL. Refugee Company has a priority share in the company. Making a profit is never the goal of our activities, but a means to an end. We do business primarily from a social mission (impact first).

The goal is to enable residents of asylum-seeking centers to take an important step toward social and economic independence. Through the activities of our limited liability companies, income is raised to cover the costs of part of the activities. Below you can read how we have secured our social mission.

Social enterprise code

In November 2019, A Beautiful Mess was admitted to the Social Enterprise Code. The Social Enterprise Code creates recognition and trust. If a company is included in the Register, then everyone – from consumer to government and from employee to investor – can see that, deep down, it is a social enterprise. The Code is also a tool on the road to growth and improvement: social enterprise is a process and in that process the Code can act as a guide. Last but not least, by joining the Register, the social entrepreneur becomes part of a learning network of passionate colleagues who, each in their own way, pursue the same goal: impact first! The companies in the Register keep each other on their toes – through peer review – and stimulate each other by exchanging knowledge and experiences.
