For our two largest hospitality locations, in Amsterdam (turnover approx. € 2.5 M) and Arnhem (turnover approx. € 1.2 M), we are looking for two experienced General Managers Hospitality who will take hospitality, quality and profitability to the highest level and can grow our teams. The biggest challenge is to combine commercial success with making as much social impact as possible.

Who we are.

A Beautiful Mess would like to bring connection between two worlds that do not normally meet. Right in the middle of Amsterdam, the city that has always been so welcoming to refugees. The restaurant grew out of the network of the Refugee Company foundation. They help people who have fled to the Netherlands to find their place here.

The Netherlands is different in many ways from Eritrea, Ukraine or Syria, and through A Beautiful Mess, our employees are able to settle in from a safe base, gain rhythm, focus on their future, and move out to a job or education. All those influences make for delicious experimental cuisine.

Who are you?

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on hospitality professional with:

  • Minimum 7 – 10 years of experience as a manager or entrepreneur in the hospitality industry.
  • Preferably experience at exceptional companies with a social or sustainable mission.
  • A proven track record in managing a restaurant or large hospitality location (turnover 1 – 3 M).
  • Experience in achieving revenue, quality, impact and sales goals.
  • Strong leadership skills, including coaching a large and diverse team.
  • Willingness to collaborate on the floor and set an example for your team.
  • Life and work experience that allows you to stand firmly in your shoes and to interact well at different levels.
  • Availability in evenings and weekends as needed.

what are you going to do?

As General Manager, you are ultimately responsible for one of our hospitality locations. You:

  • Directs the entire operation of your location: kitchen, service, events, apprenticeship training and commercial processes.
  • Directly manages a location team of approximately 22 FTE (Amsterdam) and 18 FTE (Arnhem) respectively.
  • Monitors hospitality, quality, efficiency, profitability and impact goals.
  • Will be responsible for achieving revenue, profit and impact goals and will help deliver our next step in the growth process.
  • Turn commercial objectives into achievable targets and processes.
  • Works closely with the national sales and events team and the foundation responsible for the apprenticeship programs.
  • Coaches and develops your team and ensures professional growth and a safe and enjoyable work atmosphere.
  • Works regularly on the floor to support your team and keep a feel for the daily operation.
  • Reports to the Business Director and works closely with your fellow General Manager to advance the mission.
