Community Café Manager (24 hours)
Location: Amsterdam West | Start: March 1 | Contract: 1 year (with prospect of extension)

At A Beautiful Mess in Amsterdam West, we are looking for an energetic, social and committed Community Café Manager. A social organizational talent who feels just as at home behind a coffee machine as among people from all corners of the world.
About Refugee Company and A Beautiful Mess
We are a social enterprise set up by the Refugee Company Foundation, with restaurants and community cafes in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Arnhem. In our new café at the asylum seekers’ center (azc) on the cruise ship the Galaxy in Amsterdam West harbor area, we are going to build a place where residents of the asylum seekers’ center, volunteers and local residents can come together. Here we don’t just serve coffee, we create opportunities.
Together with residents of the asylum center, we run the café, organize workshops, trainings and activities – from practicing Dutch to creative sessions or barista training.
What will you do?
You are the face of our café as well as a booster of connection. Your duties include:
- Team leader of the residents who come to work in our café, welcoming guests and keeping the café running
- Giving barista training to residents
- Set up workshops and activities with residents and volunteers (think cooking, language, digital skills and more)
- Creating a welcoming and safe atmosphere where everyone feels seen
- Liaise with COA, coaches and other relevant partners
- Recruiting and supervising volunteers
- Identify needs and contribute ideas for new programs
- Keeping track of who is participating – so we can show what a wonderful impact we are making
Who are you?
You don’t have to be able to do everything already, but we hope you will:
- Have experience in the hospitality industry (barista is a plus!)
- Have an affinity for social work or welfare
- Speaks Dutch and English
- Be positive, flexible and empathetic
- Standing firmly in your shoes
- Quickly connects and easily interacts with people of all backgrounds
- Creative thinking and is not shocked by a little chaos
- Truly believes in the power of together

Working hours are usually during the day. Working conditions according to the Horeca collective bargaining agreement: 8% vacation allowance, pension accrual, travel allowance, 20 vacation days (for full-time)
