Middle Eastern

At A Beautiful Mess, we work with people who have fled their homelands, and we serve dishes from their homelands. These are mostly Middle Eastern countries such as Syria, Iraq or Lebanon, on which the menu of A Beautiful Mess is thus also based.

Middle Eastern food is mainly based on ingredients that grow in this area. This is why you will often see ingredients like chickpeas and pomegranate often in our dishes. Middle Eastern spices, like za’atar or harissa, are also commonly used. One of our most popular dishes at A Beautiful Mess is our shakshuka, a true staple of Middle Eastern cuisine. This dish consists of egg, prepared in a spicy sauce of tomato, bell bell pepper and cilantro.

Mezze

Typical Middle Eastern food found at A Beautiful Mess are mezze. Mezze is not one dish, but a selection of several, small dishes that you share with each other. Hummus is perhaps the most famous mezze, but muhammara and moutabal/baba ganoush are also very popular mezze.

Ideal to eat with mezze is flatbread. We make the flatbread fresh on our saj, an iconic Middle Eastern hot plate. Tear off a piece of the flatbread, and use it to eat the mezze with.

At A Beautiful Mess, all the food we serve is halal. Halal food adheres to the Islamic dietary guidelines set forth in the Qur’an. The team at A Beautiful Mess includes people from many different backgrounds, and we value the fact that everyone should be able to enjoy our food.
